BMI Index

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. It is widely used as a common indicator of whether a person has a healthy body weight for their height. The value obtained from the calculation of BMI is used to categorize whether a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese depending on the range in which it falls.

BMI Formula

The formula used for calculating the BMI index in (kg/m2) is given below:

BMI(kg/m2) = mass(kg) / height2(m)

Alternatively, it can also be expressed as:

BMI(kg/m2) = mass(lb) / height2(in) × 703
